Established in Grimsby in the 1930s, GH Abernethie Ltd has a proud and experienced tradition in the fish processing industry.

Today GHA sell a wide range of quality wet fish and smoked fish products. As one of the few remaining traditional fish smokers left in Grimsby, GHA are a member of the Grimsby Traditional Fish Smokers Group which is dedicated to promoting the unique method of natural slow smoking in Grimsby.

 

Celebrating the PGI Award - European Recognition

At the end of 2009 Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish was awarded a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) by the European Union.

The PGI ensures that only fish smoked in Grimsby in the traditional way, overnight in smokehouses, can be called Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish.

Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish was the 39th PGI to be awarded in the UK, making it part of a select group of fine foods, such as Parma Ham and Champagne, that can boast this high accolade.

GHA are delighted with this achievement and the recognition of their work in preserving the traditional method of fishsmoking.
